What We Do
Our values
God forms us through His word and Spirit to live with a passion for God and a heart for people and the Creation. So our values comprises:
- Trust in God
- Credibility
- Transparency
- Learnability
- Focus
Why does D3 want to do this?
Many Deaf people are often those who have never been to school, are illiterate and unreached and therefore they cannot read the Bible. These Deaf persons have a distorted interpretation of their own Christian values.
How do we achieve this?
- Locate the physical whereabouts of these Deaf and meet with them
- Visit those Deaf we have already made contact with and build confidential relationships
- Improve the communication skills of the Deaf
- Evangelise and provide pastoral care for the Deaf
- The working process of D3 comprises: Locating Deaf people, personal visits, learning communication skills, building confidential relationships and eventually, the ministry of Pastoral Care.
When the Deaf person feels ready for integration with other Deaf people in their vicinity or with a hearing Christian community, church, or organization, D3 will help him/her with this empowerment.
Our highest aim is for Deaf people to achieve spiritual maturity.
In this process:
D3 wishes to acknowledge the unique needs of the Deaf, wants to empower them with the ministry of the Gospel, pastoral therapy and training in life skills and we want to empower congregations so that they will do likewise.
For this reason our work/ministry focuses specifically on illiterate and unreached Deaf who live in rural towns, notably in Namaqualand, Matzikama, Hantam and Overberg regions. D3 wants to make changes in these areas and situations by the ministry of the Gospel, specifically by pastoral care (adapted for deaf, hearing-impaired persons in terms of language and communication methods).
Focus process for 2008
- Compiling a Project team consisting of a project leader, members for fundraising, marketing, prayer and emotional support
- building contacts and relationships with Christian congregations as well as “other faiths”
- doing research about Deaf people in Namaqualand, Matzikama, Hantam and Overberg regions and ministering to the Deaf in these regions.
